Poet, Author, Blogger, Advertisng & Marketing Career:
After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 3.5 years—not Summa Cum Laude, but Thanka De Lorde—in Business Education from Iowa State Teachers College in 1960, Robert F. McCusker spent twelve successful years in sales and sales management in the Office Products field. Then, his first effort as an independent business forms entrepreneur failed.
His long march searching for enjoyable work was rewarded when he fell into advertising and marketing. He worked with an art studio, a graphics and printing center, and an advertising agency.
In 1985, at age fifty, he successfully launched his own ad agency with his wife, Beverly, as his partner; specializing in Business-to-Business clientele. He’s the copywriter and creative, Beverly watches the money.
The McCuskers were born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa. They have five children.
He has written copy and created campaigns for many nationally-known products. He has supervised research and communication projects for a wide variety of clients, including: Amana, A.Y. McDonald, Ertl Toy, Meredith Corporation/Better Homes & Gardens, Mutual of Omaha, Massey Ferguson, Winnebago, University of Northern Iowa, Ellsworth College, Federal SBA/SBDC, and over 100 smaller companies.
The partners continue to operate their agency on a semi-retired, flexible-lifestyle basis, with a select group of long-time clients. He has published three books, plus the Friday Follies blog for over 900 weeks.
McCusker has traveled 44 states, all 99 counties in Iowa, plus a few foreign countries. He is an addicted golfer. He hides out most afternoons on the golf courses in the Cedar Valley of Northeast Iowa.
Maintaining this blog for the amusement of his friends, and the abuse of his opponents; reading history and non-fiction; writing poetry and golf.
